Founded in 1990 with the aim of supplying good value English language books to shops across southern Spain. Originally based in a small shop on a side street in San Pedro de Alcantara, the company also sold books at markets and Bookfairs. This was the beginning of both the shops network and the distribution operation. After moving to what is now the San Pedro branch, the Academic department was added. A branch in Fuengirola was next to be launched, followed by the first premises on the Costa Blanca, at Javea.
There are now twelve shops, along with two distribution teams, an Academic Department including a Bookfair Touring Team, and a headquarters Unit in San Pedro de Alcantara.

We have expanded our shops throughout all of Spain offering customers an extensive choice of not only the latest books on all subjects, but the classics and contemporary too. Often available before UK shops. Bookworld also specialises in books on Spanish interest - the culture, the cuisine, the history, and the language.
The six shops on the south coast include the original premises in San Pedro, at Guadalmina, in Puerto Banus near El Corte Inglés, the town centre premises in Fuengirola near the market, in CC El Ingenio, Vélez Malaga, and the latest in CC Miramar, Fuengirola..

Along with
the book coffee shop in Guadalmina, which offers a great range of refreshments.
On the Costa Blanca, the latest Bookworld shop can be found in the new Dos Mares Shopping Centre in San Javier. Further north, there's one in the fabulous Las Habaneras Centre, Torrevieja, and a third in the fishing town of Calpe. Finally there's the original spacious shop in Javea.
Meanwhile, Bookworld has now expanded with a branch in the capital, Madrid

Growth and expansion has steadily continued with major developments in distribution across the country.
The Distribution Department is featured on it's own page, but has been growing rapidly in recent years, with supplies going to many major stores, garden centres, tourist attractions, museums, and numerous smaller local shops. The introduction of a team based on the Costa Blanca has opened up opportunities in the north and east. The company always welcomes enquiries from shop owners who wish to add English language books to their stock.
Again The Educational Department has it's own page, as does the travelling Bookfairs team. These show the expanding range of services available to schools, colleges, students and parents.
The Bookworld shops network is likely to expand yet further, and all new outlets will stock our range of available books. They will also offer a vast range of greetings cards and games.
In addition Bookworld can now provide Gift Vouchers for its own shops, or Book Tokens for use in the UK and Ireland.
For those who can't visit one of our shops, the company developed a Mailorder service in 1992, and now in conjunction with a regular company catalogue, The Bookworm, services over 7,000 members quarterly with a wide choice of books and gift ideas. This website is a further company development, which now offers the opportunity to buy on-line.
The
Bookworm is a useful guide to book buying, while it also has interesting features and articles. Once selected, the books can be posted directly, or via a special courier.
The Mailorder service can also seek out unusual or older books, and again send them to you at home. There is also a facility to have books sent to family and friends in the UK, which means they arrive next day at local rates - saving both time and money.
